Music Video Editing Blog

Today Stephanie and I continued our editing process. Stephanie redid the screen of her putting on her lipstick at home. She recorded it on her phone and made the camera movement a pan. We downloaded the video from her Google Drive account and imported it onto Pinnacle Studios. When we moved the clip onto AV Track 2, the video was turned sideways which we didn’t want. We couldn’t figure out how to turn the video the correct way. Stephanie said that if we still couldn’t figure it out by our last editing day, she would turn the original video on her phone, download the video to her Google Drive, then import it onto Pinnacle Studios. This mishap didn’t take up too much time though.

We continued to watch and select the videos we wanted to us in the film. After the selection, we trimmed the length of each clip to its corresponding lyrics in the song. When we starting editing the scenes for our phone call, we realized that the lyrics for that scene started at a certain time in the song. What we had so far wasn’t long enough to meet the time that those lyrics started at. So, we had to go back and make some scenes longer.  Early in our editing process, I suggested that we insert the song’s audio so that we could match up the scenes with the song. We did include the music, but eventually we took it out because we thought it’d be better to add it at the end. However, I felt as though this issue could’ve been avoided if we kept in the audio.

The last problem we came across was the phone scenes. Initially, the phone conversation was going to be a reverse shot of Stephanie speaking then switch to me talking and so on. However, when we finished editing that scene, we saw that our music video was to long. We had to go back and make some scenes shorter, but even after that, our video was still too long. Stephanie proposed the idea that we should put in the unedited version of my phone scenes in the video and take out her phone scenes. We tested the idea and it did shorten the video’s length. This issue consumed most of our time. We still have to add in the music, color the phone call scenes black and white, and fix Stephanie’s lipstick scene.
